Highland Adjara: Waterfalls, Bridges

and Wine.

This excursion is for those who are spending their holidays in Batumi or on black sea shore.

First we’ll drive alongside of the sea shore to the border of Turkey. Our First stop is Gonio Township. Here we’ll see Gonio Fortress which was built by Romans in 1st century. It was political and cultural center alongside Black sea shore until 4th century. Also here is a tomb of apostle Mathew one of 12 apostle of the Jesus Christ.

Next stop is village Sarpi and waterfall of Andrew the first called. This little village is divided into two by the border and has Turkish and Georgian part.  There you’ll see building of border control with unique architectural style. Worth to mention that the water in Sarpi is much cleaner for swimming than it’s in Batumi.

After we’ll drive uphill to the mountains, Mountain Rivers and beautiful nature. Visit to an Adjara Wine House which was built quite recently and is well known for its brand wine called Porto Franco. Everyone will be able to taste this and several other wines produced there and listen about how wine is produced by Georgian technology.

Later we’ll see highland waterfall Makhuntseti and an ark bridge of Queen Tamara. Our last stop would be at the house of hospitable wine maker who will show us his vineyard and give us to taste some home wine and his wife will feed us with tasty dinner.
