Kutaisi – one of the oldest cities in the world and it was capital of ancient Kolkheti Kingdom. Now it’s second biggest city in Georgia situated on the river Rioni. We walk in the central part of the city near Kolkheti fountain, Lado Meskhishvili Drama Theatre, ascend the hill where Bagrati Cathedral is standing. It was built in 1003 AD and was one of the most important cathedrals throughout the whole history of Georgia. During the war citizens came here to hide from the enemies. Also here, at the age of 16, was crowned David 4th Agmashenebeli  one of the most prominent and successful king of Georgia.

               

We’ll show you many interesting places and attractions. Gelati Monastery – center of religious life of this region in middle ages. It was built in 1106 by King Davit Agmashenebeli. Monastery complex consists of 3 cross dome churches: Birth of Virgin Mary (here is buried King David Agmashenebeli) and Churches of St. George and St. Nicolaus and three-tired belfry.

               

Monastery Motsameta is our next stop. It was built in honor of martyr David and Constantin. It’s quite near to Gelati monastery only canyon divides them. In 8th century there already was  church but during invasion of Arabs it was burned and then later in 11th century was built another bigger monastery and called Motsameta (Martyrs)

               

In National Park of Sataplia you can find sleeping volcano crater. Several karst caves, where you can find beautiful masterpieces of nature: stalagmites, stalactites, wells with unusual forms. Also here are stoned foot prints of dinosaurs.
